Cisco SD-WAN Project

Network Design | Implementation of Cisco Networking

SD-WAN is a software-defined methology for managing the WAN. Our latest network project involved completely re-designing and upgrading an existing customer multi-site wide area network into a newer SD-WAN topology.

The customer utilised various transport methods to interconnect their head office and branch office locations. All of their sites where interconnected using traditional WAN topology, ultimately directing traffic back to their head office datacenter and on-premises server applications.

However, as the customer moved most of their operational functions into the cloud, the traditional WAN interconnections were becoming overwhelmed with additional cloud traffic.

Multi-site WANs were not designed to cope with the adoption of cloud technologies and so a complete re-design of the WAN topology was required.

Initially all customer sites were upgraded with new Gigabit Leased Lined internet connections. This was completed without any disruption to day to day operations.

New network equipment from Cisco, specifically designed to support SD-WAN topologies, was installed and configured.

The new SD-WAN topology was then activated and all legacy connections moved over accordingly.

The customer now has a highly available and predictable service, cyber secure and dynamically routed for efficient delivery and improved user experience, with all branch offices able to efficiently access M365, Saas and on-premises Server Applications.
